NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS

 "A" or "G" Visas

Sri Lankan and Maldivian Government Officials or Members of certain International Organization

Applicants traveling to the U.S. for official purposes on behalf of the governments of Sri Lanka, the Maldives, or other diplomatic missions in Colombo, or who are employed by certain International Organizations may apply for their visa interview appointment directly through the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy.  The pertinent visa categories for these travelers are category A (government officials) and category G (employees of  International Organizations).  Applicants must have a diplomatic note from their respective organizations and relevant other information concerning their employment and purpose of travel.  All persons resident in Sri Lanka or the Maldives and carrying a Diplomatic Passport may also apply directly to the U.S. Embassy using these procedures.

To request an appointment for an A or G visa, please complete the Fax Application Form (FAF) below.  Also, please complete the DS-156 form, found under the "Visa Forms" section of this website.  Fax these two documents to the Consular Section fax number at 94-11-249-8590.  Within two working days, the Consular Section will fax back your appointment receipt to the 24-hour dedicated fax number you included on your FAF.  Bring your appointment receipt and required documents to the U.S. Embassy on the day and time of your interview.  Provided you qualify for an A or G visa or possess a Diplomatic Passport, you will not be required to pay any fees for your visa.  If you have any inquiries regarding A or G visas, you may contact the U.S. Embassy at 94-11-249-8500 and request to speak with the Consular Section.

Procedures for Domestic Staff Visas (A-3 AND G-5)

As required by U.S. immigration law, all applicants for domestic staff positions must provide the following additional information:

  1. Date of Employer's Arrival in the United States;
  2. Date of Employer's Expected Departure from the United States;  
  3. Names & Visa Information of all other Domestic Staff presently employed;  
  4. Names & Visa Information of all previously employed Domestic Staff
  5. Proof Domestic Staff was paid according to U.S. law;
  6. Information concerning Businesses or Individuals who arranged employment contracts;
  7. Domestic Staff Applicant's Work History with Reference Letters;
  8. Employment Contract that conforms to U.S. labor law signed by both Employer and Applicant in a language the employee can read.

Failure to provide this information and/or prior complications with previously employed Domestic Staff could result in significant delays.
