Telling America’s Story: the new “America.gov” web site

Colombo, February 29, 2008 – If you are interested in knowing more about what Americans are thinking in this historic election year or to what extent regional or social-economic or other factors might play in their voting patterns; or would like to get the latest on U.S. foreign policy concerning a particular country or region or issue; or want information on American arts and culture or its education system, then check out the new web site “America.gov.”  Produced by the U.S. State Department, the site delivers current information about all these subjects, and more.

Important features of the site include an extensive selection of video clips and podcasts, ranging from social and cultural subjects to background information on the election campaigns to U.S. Government officials speaking on foreign policy or development assistance, for example, as well as photo galleries and links to publications for more in-depth reading. And lots more.

Also, the American Embassy in Colombo maintains its own web site at: “srilanaka.usembassy.gov” with the latest information on visas, studying in the U.S., business and trade, the American Center movie schedule and transcripts of speeches by the Ambassador and other officials, among lots of other information.  Please note that an older link, “colombo.usembassy.gov,” will soon no longer work and should be changed to the above (i.e. replace the city name with the country name).

America.gov, “telling America’s story,” and srilanka.usembassy.gov, your local touch stone with the U.S.A.  Check them out.
